Psychotherapy Methods

Psychotherapy can develop ways of thinking about things which can make difficulties seem less overwhelming for everyone involved.

Child psychotherapists are trained to observe how a child or young person relates and communicates through play and words. This can lead to an understanding of the deeper emotions and feelings that the child or young person is attempting to express.

The therapy room offers a safe space within which the child or young person is free to express their emotions, fears, worries and confusions so that these can slowly be put into words rather than actions. This process can take some time to develop but when it does the child or young person can begin to feel more able to understand their feelings and struggles within themselves.

This can lead to greater confidence and raised self-esteem as the child or young person becomes more able to manage their everyday lives. Therapy can also offer parents and carers a space to think about their young person in ways that can increase their understanding and confidence.
